Duolingo Lithuanian: The Course We’re Still Waiting For

Duolingo Lithuanian: The Course We’re Still Waiting For

20/09/2026

Still waiting for Lithuanian on Duolingo? It isn’t there yet.

Duolingo is famous for its wonderfully absurd sentences, like “I am eating bread and crying on the floor.” All delivered with the same cheerful encouragement as learning to order a coffee.

So we imagined what Lithuanian on Duolingo might look like.

First, introduce yourself

Write this in Lithuanian: I am a potato dumpling. Answer: Aš esu cepelinas. Correct!

You now know how to introduce yourself in Lithuanian. There may be follow-up questions.

Now, talk about your family

Write this in Lithuanian: My wife does not know that I am a potato dumpling. Answer: Mano žmona nežino, kad aš esu cepelinas. Nicely done!

You’ve learned a longer sentence. Your wife has learned nothing.

Ready for a challenge?

Hard exercise. Write this in Lithuanian: If my wife finds out that I am a potato dumpling, she will eat me. Answer: Jei mano žmona sužinos, kad aš esu cepelinas, ji mane suvalgys. Excellent!

Your Lithuanian is improving. Your situation is not.

Time to practise another topic

Perhaps food and family got a little too personal. Let’s try nature.

Write this in Lithuanian: The mushrooms are watching me. Answer: Grybai mane stebi. Correct!

Write this in Lithuanian: The mushrooms know where I live. Answer: Grybai žino, kur aš gyvenu. Amazing!

Hard exercise. Write this in Lithuanian: I changed my address, but the mushrooms found me again. Answer: Pakeičiau adresą, bet grybai mane vėl surado. You’re on a roll!

You came to Lithuania to pick mushrooms. Apparently, they picked you.

One last speaking exercise

Say this aloud: Prašau, nesakykite mano žmonai, kad aš esu cepelinas. Meaning: Please don’t tell my wife that I am a potato dumpling. Lesson complete!

You can now introduce yourself, discuss your family, describe a problem, and ask someone to keep a secret. A productive day.
